Sister Joann

Sr. Joann Nowak

Program Director St. Louis, Missouri A Franciscan Sister for 46 years, Sister Joann Nowak is grateful to God for calling her to be a Franciscan. The ideals of St. Francis, a universal character of peace and a creature in love with the Creator, is one she finds needed in our times. "This community of Franciscans gives me pride for its work with those who struggle particularly in rural school and church communities, the aged, the segregated, the immigrant, the sick and injured. I am challenged by my ministry of sheltering the homeless. Society is challenged by this as well. I most enjoy the times that my staff and I help a family to become self-reliant once more. I am humbled when God works through me to renew someone’s courage and hope."

Sister Georgette

Sr. Georgette Lehmuth

President and CEO Hempstead, New York Born and raised in University City, a suburb of St. Louis, Sister Georgette has been a Sister for 39 years. "As President of National Catholic Development Conference, the largest association of religious organizations that raise funds for charitable purposes, I have the honor and privilege of representing groups whose missions are all gospel-centered," says Sister Georgette. "Our members transform the lives of those most in need. It is my joy to provide services to help them meet these needs while providing a network of support for each other. It provides me with so many opportunities to be about our Franciscan mission of proclaiming the gospel with hope and joy."

Sister Renita

Sr. Renita Brummer

Program Director Springfield, Illinois "I shall always be a farmer’s daughter who loves the earth, the rhythm of the seasons and all things Franciscan," says Sister Renita Brummer, a Franciscan Sister for 37 years who was raised in Dieterich, Illinois, a small town near Effingham. "My vocation to be a Franciscan Sister is God’s greatest gift to me—it defines who I am; calls me to be more; fills me with hope; instills joy; sends me on mission; and is the source of all my loving." In her current ministry as program director at Chiara Center, Sister Renita says she feels blest and humbled to share in the spiritual journey of retreatants as she helps them see the face of Christ in their own lives.
